RevOps Champion Tony Tarantino, Chief Architect at Hyperscayle

Q: What brought you to Hyperscayle? What sparked your interest in RevOps?

Tony’s Answer: What brought me to Hyperscayle was a combination of my early consulting experience at Accenture and the hands-on, fast-paced environment I found later at Mendix. At Accenture, I enjoyed the variety and problem-solving aspects of consulting, but the firm was so large that I often felt disconnected from the bigger picture and lacked a sense of ownership. That changed when I joined Mendix, where I met Ben and Nick. There, I gained a real sense of contributing to the company’s culture and bottom line. I also got a front-row seat to the challenges scaling companies face. I joined when Mendix had about 25 employees and stayed as it grew to nearly a thousand, which taught me valuable lessons about setting up the right systems, processes, and teams to scale successfully. That experience inspired us to start Hyperscayle and help other growing companies navigate similar challenges.

My interest in RevOps comes from the intersection of my background, studying business in school and starting my career in tech. RevOps is a perfect blend of those two worlds: using technology and data to drive business outcomes and revenue growth. It’s a field that lets me continue growing while helping companies align strategy, systems, and teams for sustainable success.

Q: What’s one really important thing you’ve learned by working in RevOps that they don’t teach you in school?

Tony’s Answer: One important thing I’ve learned working in RevOps that they don’t teach you in school is how critical the day-to-day people and processes are to actually driving business success. In school, especially with a background in economics, the focus is on gathering data, analyzing it, and using it to make high-level strategic decisions. That’s valuable, and it’s certainly part of RevOps. But what’s often missing from academic training is attention to the operational details that really move the needle: how teams work together, how workflows function, and how the go-to-market engine runs day to day. RevOps shines in managing that operational layer, and that practical, ground-level experience is something you can only learn by doing, not by reading case studies or business theory.

Q: What’s the best RevOps career advice you’ve ever received?

Tony’s Answer: The best RevOps career advice I’ve ever received came from one of my close coworkers, Nick. As someone who’s naturally inclined to fix problems, especially with a technical background, I used to jump in and solve issues right away. But Nick helped me see that sometimes, letting a fire burn can be the better path. Fixing things immediately might seem helpful, but it can actually hide deeper structural issues in your people, processes, or organization. By not rushing to solve every problem, you allow visibility into what's broken, which can create the urgency needed to address root causes. Especially in RevOps, where many professionals are natural problem-solvers, it’s important to recognize when stepping back will lead to longer-term improvements.

Q: What’s a common RevOps myth you’d like to debunk?

Tony’s Answer: A common RevOps myth I like to debunk is that Revenue Operations is just a cost center. Too often, companies treat RevOps as a back-office function, necessary to keep things running but not seen as strategic. I see it differently. RevOps teams are deeply connected to the business, the data, and the day-to-day processes, which means we bring a unique and valuable perspective to the table. I believe RevOps should have a seat in strategic conversations because we can offer insights that drive better, more informed decisions. When RevOps is empowered to be more than just operational support, it becomes a real growth driver.

Q: What’s your favorite RevOps tool, strategy, or framework right now?

Tony’s Answer: Right now, I’d say middleware and data integration tools are my top pick. Platforms like Boomi, MuleSoft, and Syncari play a critical role in connecting data across end-to-end processes. When your ERP, CRM, and marketing automation platforms are all speaking the same language, you enable consistent, reliable data across the business. That’s essential for building a strategic, scalable go-to-market process. Without strong integration tools, it’s incredibly difficult to achieve the data clarity and architectural understanding that mature RevOps requires. So while they may seem technical, these tools are absolutely foundational to successful RevOps

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests?

Tony’s Answer: Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my one-year-old daughter. She keeps me busy! I’m also a huge horror movie fan and love watching anything in that genre. On top of that, I’m a proud Clevelander and closely follow all of their sports teams. Between family, films, and Cleveland sports, those are my go-to ways to relax.

Q: What does being a 'RevOps Champion' mean to you?

Tony’s Answer: To me, being a ‘RevOps Champion’ means unifying all the elements of your go-to-market process and having a strong, end-to-end understanding of how they interact. While RevOps often brings marketing, sales, and customer success operations under one umbrella, it’s also about deeply understanding your data, your processes, and how they’re architected to work together. The real power of RevOps shows up when you’ve taken the time to clearly document how one part of your business, like marketing’s people, processes, and data impacts another, such as customer success. That interconnected view is where RevOps creates the most value and drives real results for the organization.

At Hyperscayle, we believe that RevOps is more than just process optimization—it’s the backbone of scalable growth. Every RevOps Champion we feature plays a crucial role in transforming revenue operations into a strategic driver of business success.
